The Beginning

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2

In the beginning the Spirt of God hovered over the waters – hover= rachaph-to be moved, affected, especially with the feeling of tender love, hence to cherish.
The Spirit of God hovers over us today in the same way, over every new beginning, whether it is a new day, a new week or a new start.
Monday’s can be a challenge for many of us.
Back to work after a weekend where we may or may not have done all the things on our to- do list, especially the “relaxing part”.
A return to the routine where we don’t seem to have enough hours in the days or days in the week to accomplish the things we feel we need to accomplish.
But when we think about the fact that the Spirit of God hovers over even our Mondays, tenderly, cherishing both us and all the things that Monday’s represent in our lives, that could change the perspective a bit.
Monday’s are a new beginning.
And perhaps if we looked at them more like new beginnings rather than a return to the same ole, same ole, we could get more excited about them.
Would it be possible to begin to look at them tenderly, cherish them as new and exciting and filled with potential?
Let’s work on that this week!

New!

This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:21-23

No matter what you endured through the night hours, the mercies and compassions of the Lord are new every morning.
Not just on some mornings, but every morning.
Each new dawn signals a new day and each new day signals a new experience of mercy and compassion from the hand of the Lord.
When we count our blessings,
when we consider the reasons we have for crawling out from between the warm covers and greeting the new day,
when we wonder why we are “doing this all over again” after the day/night we had yesterday,
we need to be like the Psalmist and “recall to mind”,
giving us hope and purpose as we face the new day.
As you rise this morning, reach out and touch the hand and the heart of your Heavenly Father who is forever faithful.

What You See vs What You Know

When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel. And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD:
“For He is good,
For His mercy endures forever toward Israel.”
Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
But many of the priests and Levites and heads of the fathers’ houses, old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this temple was laid before their eyes. Yet many shouted aloud for joy, so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard afar off. Ezra 3:10-13

With the laying of the foundation of the new temple, a new thing was set forth.
Those that looked ahead, beyond the “beginning foundation” toward what the Lord was going to do, knew that it would be great and they shouted aloud with joy.
Those that looked back at what had been, only saw what was in front of them; what looked like a shabby copy of what had been.
They were blinded to what the Lord was going to do ahead of them, only focusing on what this “beginning foundation” looked like and how it paled in comparison.
They missed the fact that this was just the beginning of the new thing.
They wept with a loud voice.
We often look at the new thing the Lord is doing in our lives, in this way.
We begin to compare the glory of the old thing in its heyday to the beginning foundations of the new thing that is coming.
There is no comparison.
This is a new thing.
We must learn to look beyond what we can see, to what we know.
Oh that the Lord would give us new vision for the new thing He is doing!
