The Washing of Feet

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.  After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. John 13: 3-5

So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? “You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. “For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. John 13:12-15

Jesus washed the feet of His disciples.
He washed their feet on the eve of his betrayal by one of them and the desertion of the rest.
And still, he humbled Himself; the Master, humbled Himself before His disciples and washed their feet, taking on the job of a servant.
He then instructed the disciples to do this for one another.
This wasn’t just a nice gesture on Jesus’ part, it was an object lesson; it was an example to be remembered and to be followed.
We are also called to wash one another’s feet today.
Not just those who are being kind to us.
Not just those we like and identify with; but even those that may betray or desert us.
This is a hard lesson.
In Mark 9:35 Jesus tells the disciples:
“Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Kingdom principles are different than the principles of the world.
Whose feet is Jesus calling you to wash today?
How can you serve those around you?
Began to be open to that prompting from the Lord and see what marvelous things He will do in and through you!
