Thanksgiving
Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all your lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who had made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.
Psalm 100
Happy Thanksgiving! Just thinking, as I cook a turkey large enough to feed us for weeks – what are we to be thankful for? Think about it- other than those things we think of quickly when asked: family, friends, health, work, kitty cats, turkey and mashed potatoes and time off and nice weather. All those things are honorable things to be thankful for…….but what does the Word of God tell us to be thankful for?
In reading Psalm 100 I picked out the following things the Psalmist tells us to be thankful for:
That the Lord is God
That the Lord has made us
That we have not made ourselves (imagine the mess we would be in 🙂 )
That we are the people of God
That He is our Shepherd (He guides and directs us and takes care of us)
The Lord is Good
The Lord is merciful
The Lord’s mercy is everlasting
His truth endures to all generations (no guessing with God!)
Those are a lot of things that I take for granted and don’t necessarily take the time to be thankful for.
How are we to show our thanks:
Make a joyful shout
Serve the Lord with gladness (not begrudgingly)
Sing in His presence (every sound is a joyful noise onto the Lord!)
Enter His gates with thanksgiving (constant thanks on our lips as we live day to day)
Enter His courts with Praise
Be thankful to Him (thank Him often and tell others what He has done in your life)
Bless His Name (love on the Lord)
Happy Thanksgiving! Begin to life up your voice and Bless your Lord, not just today, but each and every day!
