Salt and Light

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5: 13-16

Salt gives flavour.
Light gives hope.
We are called to be both in the world, flavour and hope.
What flavour are we adding to the world around us?
What light are we throwing that offers hope to those whose pathways it strikes?
We are not called to be self- absorbed, self -serving or self- focused, rather we are called to consider the impact we are having on the lives around us.
Christmas is a wonderful season to add flavour and hope.
Although many enjoy the season, there are also many who suffer in the season due to loss or loneliness.
And even those that enjoy the season inevitably tire of the busyness and the doing.
How can you be salt and light in the midst of this Christmas season?
To those you encounter regularly?
A smile, a thank you, a word of encouragement, a pleasant manner, can all go a long way to adding flavour and hope.
Be salt and light today- flavour and hope!
