The Washing of Feet

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.  After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. John 13: 3-5

So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? “You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. “For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. John 13:12-15

Jesus washed the feet of His disciples.
He washed their feet on the eve of his betrayal by one of them and the desertion of the rest.
And still, he humbled Himself; the Master, humbled Himself before His disciples and washed their feet, taking on the job of a servant.
He then instructed the disciples to do this for one another.
This wasn’t just a nice gesture on Jesus’ part, it was an object lesson; it was an example to be remembered and to be followed.
We are also called to wash one another’s feet today.
Not just those who are being kind to us.
Not just those we like and identify with; but even those that may betray or desert us.
This is a hard lesson.
In Mark 9:35 Jesus tells the disciples:
“Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Kingdom principles are different than the principles of the world.
Whose feet is Jesus calling you to wash today?
How can you serve those around you?
Began to be open to that prompting from the Lord and see what marvelous things He will do in and through you!

Who are you Surrounding Yourself With?

While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.” But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.” When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl. Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, “Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl, arise. “Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat. Luke 8:49-55
What I find interesting about this passage is who Jesus choose to surround Himself with as He prepared to raise this girl from the dead.
It is clear that he permitted only Peter, James, John and the girls’ parents.
The other, those that ridiculed, mourned and wept, were put out.
Jesus understood that the presence of unbelief hinders the miracle.
In Matthew 13:58 we read: “Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”  In this case Jesus removed those who did not believe from the house and carried on.
What miracle are you believing for today?
Who are you surrounding yourself with?
Your miracle may be delayed by the unbelief of those you surround yourself with.
Perhaps it is time to get into the Presence of the Lord on your own, close the door behind you and believe for that miracle on your own or with those few people who are on onside.
Everyone doesn’t need to know everything about what you are believing for.
Learn to pick and choose wisely who you are sharing with and who you are believing with.

It Starts in the Mind

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2

Offering yourself a living sacrifice, giving over your body to the Lord so that He may work in and through you, is not just a matter of your physical body being submitted to the will of the Lord. Submission of your physical body starts in the mind.
The Word tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.  It all starts in the mind.
You must change the way you think.
You must change the way you perceive the world.
You must change your thought patterns.
You must change what you allow to flow through your brain.
The presentation of our bodies as a living, breathing, willing vessel to be used by the Lord begins with our thought processes.
Do you want to be a living sacrifice?
Start now with the process of renewing your mind.
What thoughts are you allowing to sit and fester?
What perceptions are causing you grief?
What negative self-talk are you engaging in?
Step 1 is to get a hold of your thought life.
The physical presentation of your body will follow naturally.
