Your Word

Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

The Word of the Lord is alive.
It is not a dead Word that lies flat on the pages before me meant for another time and place, but rather a living Word that speaks and moves even as I lay my eyes on it and becomes applicable for my very unique life.
When I have hidden this living Word inside of me, it rises up within me when I need it.
Verses come to mind, encouragement and power are available to me even as I need them.
The Word hidden in my heart serves as a GPS and compass – it convicts me when I’m moving in the wrong direction and provides me the information I need to get back on track.
The Word I have hidden in my heart knows me inside and out, even my very thoughts and intentions.  And so, daily I spend time in that Word, reading, contemplating, praying the Word, that it might be hidden in my heart.
That I might walk uprightly, in power and victory, in the path the Lord has called me to.

Known and Understood

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.
Psalm 139:1-4
I am known.
You are known.
The Psalmist tells us that the Lord knows everything about us.
Our sitting down and rising up, our thoughts, our path and our lying down, all our ways and even the words on our tongues.
Sometimes, in the midst of the chaos and trials and tribulations of life that we find ourselves in, we begin to feel isolated, like no one could ever understand our very unique situation.
Well, I’m here to tell you this morning that there is One who knows everything you are going through.
Everything about you is known and understood by the very Creator and Sustainer of the world.
He sees and understands your unique situation.
And furthermore, He not only knows, but He cares.
Are you feeling unseen, unheard and misunderstood today?
A bit invisible even?
As if your situation is so unique that no one could ever relate?
Be encouraged!
The Lord sees you! He is “acquainted with all of your ways”!
Reach out to Him today and pour out your heart.
He is a gracious and merciful Father and will comfort you in your situation, unique as it is!

When…..

But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the LORD your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
Isaiah 43:1-3
A few things we are reminded of at the beginning:
1) we are created by God
2) we are not to fear
3) we are called by our names
4) we are the Lord’s
So, that is the lead up to the next part. T
he Lord says, “when” we pass through the waters, “when” we pass through the rivers, “when” we walk through the fire………
He doesn’t say “if”.
There will be times of trials and tribulations.
There is no doubt about that.
But “when” that happens, the Lord promises He will be with us, the rivers will not overflow us and we shall not be burned or scorched.
The other interesting word here is “through”.
We will pass through, and walk through.
We won’t stay in the midst of those things but we will pass through to the other side.
Are you in the midst today?
Be encouraged – you have been created by God,
He reminds you not to fear,
He calls you by your very name
because you are His.
He will be with you as you move through the trials and tribulations –
you won’t be overcome in the midst,
but you will move through to the other side.
