Let it go

Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.” 1 Samuel 16:1

The Lord had moved on and Samuel was still holding on to the thing that was done.
Samuel mourned for Saul but God already had plans for a new king.
God had work for Samuel to do but he couldn’t do it while he was still mourning the old thing that was already done.
What are you holding onto today that is over and done with?
Are you mourning the “way things used to be”?
Are you peering backwards at the door that has already closed?
God has a work for you to do.
There is a new thing in the works.
But He can’t use you while you are still looking backward and mourning over what He has already declared done.
Turn your eyes forward and your ears upward to see the new thing that is coming and to hear what the Lord has for you to do.
And then, “Fill your oil and go!”

Unless…..

Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul would soon have settled in silence. If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O LORD, will hold me up. In the multitude of my anxieties within me, your comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:17-19

Mercy =checed= goodness, kindness, faithfulness.
The mercy of the Lord lifts us up when our foot slips and covers the multitude of anxieties in our life.
Comforts-tanchuwm= compassion, consolation.
The comforts of the Lord bring delight or joy to my soul.
As the Psalmist said, “unless the Lord has been my help, my soul would soon have settled in silence.”
The Lord brings strength, courage, comfort and joy into our lives.
When things fall apart, as they will, He is there to show us how to put the pieces back together.
And the picture that He will help us to create with those broken pieces will be unlike anything we could have imagined ourselves.
