Be Strong and Courageous

“Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before all the multitude that is with him; for there are more with us than with him.  With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people were strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. 2 Chronicles 32:7-8

I love the visual here:  the enemy only has an arm of flesh on their side, but we have the Lord our God. 
The Lord is the one that helps us to fight our battles. 
We do not fight our battles on our own. 
The Lord goes ahead and prepares the way. 
He sees the beginning from the end and knows the path we must take to become that which He has called us to.
So, we are called to be strong and courageous.
We are not to be dismayed before the “kings of Assyria” we encounter in our lives –whether they represent physical concerns, financial concerns, emotional concerns or relational concerns. 
Those “kings” in our life only operate out of an arm of flesh. 
We operate in the spiritual realm, with the Hand of the Lord our God fighting for us and going ahead to prepare the way.

Your Worship

Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. Now as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart. 2 Samuel 6:14-16

So David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. “And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.” 2 Samuel 6:21-22

David humbled himself, removed his kingly garments and danced before the Lord.
He was neither proper nor dignified. 
Worship, true worship, reduces us in our own sight and magnifies the Lord. 
Michal, David’s wife, was embarrassed at his behaviour. 
She didn’t understand his worship. 
Often others won’t understand your worship. 
Your worship is unique to you and comes out of your circumstances, your experiences and your unique relationship with the Lord. 
Where have you been with the Lord?
David understood the power of worship. 
He told Michal,
“I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight.” 
David wasn’t worried about what he looked like to those around him. 
He understood that his worship was for the Lord and the Lord alone.
We need to stop looking around to see who is or is not looking when we worship. 
We need to allow our worship to flow from us in spirit and in truth, not to flow based on who else is near.
What does your worship look like; proper and dignified or raw and truthful? 
Are you worried about what others are thinking?
Or are you like David who said “I will be even more undignified than this.” 
We must learn to allow our worship to flow out of who we are and where we have been with the Lord rather than be dictated by what others may or may not think. 
Begin to worship today. 
Humble yourself before the Lord and pour out your praises unto him truthfully. 
Your life will never be the same.
