Mere Edges

He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing. He binds up the water in His thick clouds, yet the clouds are not broken under it.  He covers the face of His throne, and spreads His cloud over it. He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters, at the boundary of light and darkness. The pillars of heaven tremble, and are astonished at His rebuke. He stirs up the sea with His power, and by His understanding He breaks up the storm. By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, and how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand? Job 26:7-14

“Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways” –
as amazing as the things that Job describes about the Lord are, they are just barely the beginning of what He is; the mere edges.
There is so much to know about Him, so much to understand about His ways.
We spend time in His Presence, not for the things He will do for us, but for what we will learn about Him and His ways.
The more intimate we get with the Lord, the more He will reveal Himself to us; the many layers and complexities.
Set aside some time with Him today.
You won’t regret it.
I don’t know about you, but I want to know so much more than the “mere edges”!

Miserable Comforters

Then Job answered and said: “I have heard many such things; miserable comforters are you all! Shall words of wind have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer? I also could speak as you do,
If your soul were in my soul’s place. I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you; but I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the comfort of my lips would relieve your grief. Job 16:1-5

Job’s friends were awesome comforters when they sat in silence with Job.
They became, according to Job, miserable comforters when they opened their mouths and spoke endlessly.
How do we comfort those around us?
Job’s friends spoke on and on and on, pointing fingers, assigning blame and giving advice.
Often times, those we are comforting require less speaking and more listening.
The ability to be comfortable sitting in the silence together is also a great asset.
Most often we don’t have the answers.
Admitting that we don’t have the answers is often much better than trying to find an answer.
We must learn to sit with people in their situations, not assigning blame or judgement or giving advice.
The best comfort we can offer is our presence, unhindered with a whirlwind of word and thoughts and opinions.
Don’t be a miserable comforter today!
