In 1 Chronicles 21 we read of King David as he was commanded to erect an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. When David spoke to Ornan he offered him the threshing floor, the oxen and the implements to sacrifice to the Lord.
But David, in wisdom that comes from the Lord, responds:
“No, but I will surely buy it for the full price, for I will not take what is yours for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings with that which costs me nothing.”
I Chronicles 21:24
What wisdom! How often do we sacrifice what is not ours, ride on the tailcoats of the sacrifice of others and expect that it is an acceptable offering unto the Lord.
We sang this song in Church this morning:
Find Me In The River
Delirious
Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I’ve walked against the water
Now I’m waiting if You please
We’ve longed to see the roses
But never felt the thorns
And brought our pretty crowns
But never paid the price
Find me in the river
Find me there
Find me on my knees with my soul laid bare
Even though You’re gone and I’m cracked and dry
Find me in the river, I’m waiting here
Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I’ve walked against the water
Now I’m waiting if You please
We didn’t count on suffering
We didn’t count on pain
But if the blessing’s in the valley
Then in the river I will wait
The Christian walk might be a bed of roses, but it is full of thorns as well. Our freedom was purchased at a great cost – the blood of our Lord Jesus. We are called to walk with Him and walk in love as He did and does. Why then do we expect a sacrifice-less walk?
When we find ourselves in the valley, the Lord, in His faithfulness will teach us to
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10
and to:
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
No matter the day, the circumstances, the situations, the thoughts or feelings – the TRUTH is that My Lord is still on the Throne!
