Freedom

Linen Ephod

I soar through the woods path
I feel fast and powerful
Unhindered
I pick through berries
Childlike smile on my face
I climb the beach rocks
And feel the pounding waves
As they find rhythm in my heart
I dig in the moist dirt
Finding home for tiny seeds
And envision the flowers
     that will come
I swing quietly in the dark
Breathe deeply
And rest in the night
And I know who I am
I don’t push hard or fast
I just am
The mask falls from my hands
The layers of garments
     costumes at best
Slip to the floor
I am light and free
Like the priests in the Holy of Holies
Stripped to their Linen Ephod
Simple before God
     who knows them
Like King David
Dancing before the Lord
Having removed his Kingly garments
Real, exposed and known
The soldiers at the cross gambled for His robe-
     a simple linen cloth
Perhaps even they understood
     the essence of the Lord
Stripped down
Outer garments removed
They wanted His essence
Though they knew not why
Linen
Simple
Real
Natural
How we are see by the Divine
Not made up
Or done up
Or fed up with pretenses and lies
Truth
In these moments
I know
The linen outlines who I am
Not covered up
But highlighted
Unique and created
     to live in linen
Not finery and masks
