In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up,
and the train of His robe filled the temple.
Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face,
with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Isaiah 6:1-3
Wednesday again!
Let’s all stand and do a little mid week happy dance!
As usual in the Hopkins’ house the kitty is sleeping, the bunny is grazing, the tea is flowing and I have laundry on the line blowing in the breeze
The sun is shining and the clouds are sailing quickly across the sky
In typical fall fashion.
The ladies and I are doing a Bible Study on Tuesday nights called
Not a Fan: Becoming a Completely Committed Follower of Jesus.
Last night we talked about those things that get in the way of our walk with Jesus
The things that take up space on our to do lists
And space in our minds.
And then this morning I began to read Isaiah.
In reading Chapter 6 I was struck by Isaiah’s encounter with the Lord.
And I wondered, why now, why at this point in his life?
Why at this point in his life was he given a glimpse of the majesty of the Lord?
The throne – high and lifted up
The train of His robe – filling the temple
Surrounded by seraphim shielding themselves from His glory as they sang His praises
Holy, Holy, Holy!
And in light of last nights discussion about things blocking our walk with Jesus, I thought
AHA, perhaps all this time Isaiah had been focused on the earthly King Uzziah.
He was a good king, a powerful and mighty king.
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord……..
Perhaps Isaiah’s focus had to change in order for him to truly see the Lord in all His majesty as the One and Only King.
We all have Uzziah’s in our lives.
Work, family, hobbies, other relationships.
None of these things are necessarily wrong in and of themselves – many times they are good and necessary things.
But to the degree that they keep us from developing our walk with the Lord, they become a distraction.
In the New Testament we see Jesus talking to the rich young ruler:
Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me. Mark 10:21
Jesus’ intention wasn’t to tell us to leave our wealth behind in order to follow Him, but rather to leave that “thing” that distracts us from our walk with Him, to leave it behind and follow Him that we would find the true treasure that is eternal life and eternal relationship.
What is that thing in your life?
What is your Uzziah?
What has to go in order for you to have a glorious glimpse of the majesty of the Lord ?
What has to go in order for you to take up your cross and follow Jesus in relationship?
Take some time and ask the Father to speak to your heart today, to show you that Uzziah that needs to go in order that you might walk with the Lord in glorious relationship, unhindered and unburdened.
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up,
and the train of His robe filled the temple.
May it be our prayer today for our lives!
