Listening for God

Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 1 Samuel 3:9

Samuel was young, ministering unto the Lord, under the direction of Eli.
In the night the Lord spoke to Samuel  three times and each time Samuel thought it was Eli calling.  Samuel had not yet heard from the Lord and so He didn’t recognize His Voice when He spoke.
Eli directed him and Samuel heard clearly what the Lord had for him to hear.
How often, when the Lord is calling us, do we think it is someone or something else speaking?
That is because we so seldom listen for His Voice and therefore don’t always recognize it when He speaks.
How often do we actually say,
“Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears”
and actually take the time to stop and listen to what He has to say to us.
We live busy and complicated lives.
Lives that would be so much more productive and fulfilling if we took the time to sit and really listen to what the Lord is saying to us.
Take some time today!
