Majoring on the Minor

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Matthew 23:23

Jesus rebuked the scribes and Pharisees for majoring on the minor.
They were more interested in their religious rules (tithing on their spices) than they were in showing justice, mercy and faith to the people.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the dos and the don’ts, the rules and the regulations that we forget to love the people.
Jesus called justice, mercy and faith the weightier matters of the law.
These are the areas we should be focused on.
Not on who is doing what when.
But on how we show justice, mercy and faith to those around us.
Are you majoring on the minor this morning?
Take a minute, step back and look at the big picture.
Who is involved?
Can we show them the love of Christ?
Then do so.
And stop majoring on the minor.
